SWEATSHOP STOPPED BY HOT COPS

'Crime? Here? Never...! Surely.' Compton Dando CID not pictured
Homeowners living in Keynsham's Tintagel Flats were left in a state of disbelief this week as an illegal sports equipment manufacturing plant was discovered in the quiet cul-de-sac by regional serious crime investigators.

Compton Dando CID officers and government officials raided and shut down the counterfeit sports shoe operation on the top floor of Tintagel Flats last Thursday. The sweatshop had been running for over three years without attracting the attention of local police. It was only when nearby tenants tipped off the agents that it was investigated and subsequently closed.

People living below the factory made several complaints to the local authorities about a "loud 24-hour humming noise coming from the roof area". This was later found to be the sound of 26 industrial standard sewing machines and twelve cutting presses which the bootleg footwear production line had been using to produce the dodgy slip-ons. The contraband was being 'exported' to shops and markets in the Merseyside region.

With the evidence siezed during the raid now being sifted, it has been established that nearly 40 employees, mainly small people with pointed hats, worked around-the-clock producing thousands of poor quality trainers for virtually no wages. All have been remanded in custody at the old cinema until somebody can be found who can speak their language. Police are eager to question to detainees.

The last time Inspector Cribbins was in the news was in 1997, when he was stopped by customs officers at Bristol International Airport with a large suitcase full of cigarettes. It was later found that it was his brother's case and not his, OK? Charlton Bottom
